TMJ Disorders

The Temporomandibular Joint, TMJ, is the joint that attaches the jaw to the skull on each side of the head. A disorder in these joints can cause pain, discomfort, and prohibit full movement of the jaw.

TMJ disorders can be caused by genetics, arthritis, injury, or clenching and grinding while sleeping. Most TMJ problems can resolve themselves over time with rest and non-surgical care. Surgery may be needed in severe cases.

What Happens at an Appointment

If you are struggling with TMJ pain and discomfort, a dentist can help you determine the cause and develop an action plan for treatment.
